One of the least understood habits of our canine and feline pets is the tendency to “graze”. The ingestion of grass by cats and dogs is a major area of concern for pet owners and has raised serious questions, probably since people started keeping dogs and cats. Unfortunately, when it comes to answering specific questions about this behavior, there are dozens of conflicting opinions. The good news is that applying a little bit of “horse” sense (pardon the equine expression) will help concerned pet owners decide how to deal with this issue.

If you’ve talked to your vet about why your pet eats grass or looked for answers online or in books, chances are you’ve found many different answers from different sources. Some sources warn of extreme danger, and some simply state that this is a natural thing, and you shouldn’t worry about it. So, what information do you trust? Well, the first step is to separate fact from theory or just plain fiction. That’s not as difficult as it may sound. Let’s look at the most asked question:

Natural Flea Control for the Good of Your Pet

You can treat flea infestation with natural flea control. Learn about your options to take the best care of your animal. Don’t cure a flea infestation with a product which might cause even greater harm to your pet.

Many of the medications that are prescribed by veterinarians contain harmful chemicals and ingredients. The animal health care field is not very tightly scrutinized and is therefore endangering and many times shortening the lives of our animals with medications which are not safe. They, as well as the drug companies, are making billions of dollars, so they would rather keep on doing what they have been doing.

Will eating grass hurt my cat or dog?
What we know:

  • Dogs and cats eat grass — apparently instinctively.
  • Dogs and cats don’t die from eating grass unless said grass contains toxins.
  • Many dogs and cats tend to throw up if they eat very much grass.
  • Regurgitation/purging is a regular part of the digestive process for many animals.
  • Some types of plant life, including some grasses, are toxic to both dogs and cats.
  • Fertilizers and insecticides can be toxic to all kinds of animals.
  • Some grasses bear seeds and barbs that can embed in pet hide, ears, nose or throat and cause health issues.

What we might conclude:
Grazing probably isn’t directly harmful to your cat or dog. The type of grass eaten or what the grass has been treated with can pose serious health risks, including possible poisoning.

Should I let my cat or dog eat grass?
The answer to this question can now be derived from the conclusions above and your pet’s environment and habits. If you are sure the grass your dog or cat is eating hasn’t been treated with toxins and isn’t a variety that will harm your pet, a little bit of grazing probably isn’t going to cause any issues. If you live in a rural area or farming community, you may want to be wary of what kind of grass your pet eats. If you have white carpet and don’t want to risk nasty green stains — well, you get the picture.

Finally, input from your veterinarian is still very important in regulating your pet’s diet and that includes grazing habits. Our dogs and cats are as much individuals as we are and it’s possible that your pet may have health issues or even breed characteristics that make a difference. As with your own doctor visits, a little knowledge of the subject before you discuss it will go a long way in helping you and your pet’s vet decide what’s best for your dog or cat. It’s also ok to ask the vet where his or her reasoning comes from. Most will be happy to share the information

Ya-Online-Juegos.com | horses – Stand to Mount

Comments Off

Juegos

We cannot start our ride until we can get on our horse and for some that can be a long and tedious ritual. The good news is that it does not need to be a struggle and we can teach our horses to wait patiently for us to get into the saddle no matter how clumsy we may be. We need to start with an understanding that horses are lazy by nature and we will use that in our favor. We also have to remember that the horse is like a computer and we cannot get out of the horse something we did not put in. With that in mind, lets program our horse to stand for mounting.

Trabajo Empleo

Today I will explain how I address the problem using the bridle. I start with a full check snaffle bit and continuous round rope reins. I do not use nylon as they can burn your hands and round is easier to hold then flat. Remember to praise often and look for every opportunity to praise, it makes the lesson go faster.

Trabajar

Next, I take my horse to a safe enclosed area such as a round pen or arena. It is easier on you and your horse if you have already taught your horse 1) a go-forward, stop and back up cue, 2) how to move the hips and shoulders over and 3) all while softening to the bridle reins. From here you will all those cues as corrections when the horse does not stand still.

As time progresses the horse accepts my position and even happily gives the burden to me. There is a lot of responsibility that goes with the lead horse position and most horses are more than happy to have someone else deal with it. At this point the horse settles down and begins to understand that I am trying to communicate my desires to them. They start looking to me to see what it is they should do next and each time an exercise is completed and they come out unharmed, their trust grows.

Now, this is an awesome responsibility for me for it is at this time the horse can really grow mentally and emotionally or I can lose it all in a few easy mistakes. It can be a delicate situation to determine if a response from the horse is defiance or fear. If I react to a response of fear to strongly I will lose some of the trust from the horse and cause confusion. If the horse is not corrected for defiant behavior they will become more difficult to work with. The round pen offers the perfect environment for me to learn how each horse thinks and responds to pressure.

Take your time, it’s ok to spread the lesson throughout the day or even days. Have fun, because if the teacher is not enjoying the lesson how can the student? It is when we try to be somewhere we are not that we find ourselves in a wreck. If you don’t get it today, it will come tomorrow. And the great news is when you are done, not only have you taught your horse to stand quiet for mounting, but you have also gotten your horse softer and more responsive to bridle, his shoulders and hips lighter, his go-forward and back up cues stronger, and taught him to wait for your cues. you can be published without charge. Although some horses (like some people) have the good fortune to die peacefully in their sleep of old age, most horses will eventually reach a stage (due to severe injury, disease or incapacity) where the most humane action is to put them down. For the horse owner, this can be a very difficult and painful decision, in terms of when a horse should be put down, as well as how. This article is the personal view of one horse owner on this subject.

Is Now the Time?

If a horse is in a lot of pain and distress, due to an incurable injury or disease, the only correct action is to put it down as quickly and as humanely as possible. However, in some cases the decision is not as clear.

For example, a horse may be in permanent pain but quite capable of happily living with it. This was the case of a draft horse pensioned with us, who had a chronic case of laminitis which made walking painful (especially over hard surfaces). As an elderly horse, he also had dental issues which made chewing uncomfortable. However, by supplementing his diet with soft food and giving him maximum time on soft pasture, his discomfort was minimised. He was a stoic horse, who seemed little bothered by pain, and obviously enjoyed life. He would trot around the pasture with his head held high and come to us for cuddles. Although retired, he was active in the pasture and obviously enjoyed life despite the constant pain in his feet and when he ate.

For me, the question is not how much pain the horse is in, but rather is he still happy and enjoying life. One can tell this not only by how the horse behaves at the moment, but also how his behavior has changed in response to injury or illness. When life changes from a pleasure to a burden, that is the time for the horse to be put down.

Okay, what this all really translates to is that some of us riders like to take the easy way out. We like to stick with what we are comfortable doing and not risk “rocking the boat” or more specifically “hitting the dirt!” What we are guilty of doing is creating dumb horses… dumb horses and dumber riders! We don’t challenge our minds or our horses minds because we stick to the same ole easy routine…We don’t ask our horses to think!

Clinton Anderson refers to the horse as having two minds:
1. Mind #1=The everyday ho hum routine mindless mind. (what is familiar)
2. Mind #2=The Oh crap what is that? It’s time to run! (The Flight/Prey instinct)

The flight instinct is the predominant natural horse instinct. So the trick to a good well-rounded horse is to get them to overcome this flight instinct and use their “thinking mind.” Using the thinking side of the brain is not a natural response, but it’s something a horse can develop and enhance. Horses develop this side of their brain by being challenged with new stimuli and tasks. Why not take your hunter out on trail rides… and laugh at those weenies who snub their noses at trail riding as being “not real work” They are usually the one’s most in need of a good trail ride; bock, bock BOOOOCKKK! Tell em’ your eating chicken for dinner and go enjoy yourself and your horse!

If the horse is at home when the decision is make, it is kindest to the horse to put it down there (e.g. have a veterinarian come out and give a lethal injection). If the horse is severely injured or ill, transport to another location adds to its suffering. Furthermore, unfamiliar surroundings may cause it distress (particularly if taken to a slaughterhouse, where the horse may panic in response to the smell of blood). The main obstacle to this approach is the difficulty of transporting the body afterwards, so prior to putting a horse down one needs to consider whether it is necessary to first move it to a more practical location.

For personal safety, if the horse is standing up, one needs to either lie it down prior to euthanasia or be careful that nobody becomes trapped under the horse if it falls while being euthanized. Professionals (e.g. a veterinarian) should have the experience and sufficient detachment to consider such practicalities.

Unless one personally knows and trusts the person performing the euthanasia, one should remain with the horse until the end, to ensure that your wishes in this regard are properly carried out. For example, it has been known for professional slaughter staff to transport horses to the location which is most convenient for them, even though it meant additional suffering for the animal. Staying with your horse allows you to ensure that your horse ends its life with minimum distress

Keeping Siamese fighting fish is a very rewarding hobby. They each have a unique personality. Also, they are known for their feisty behavior, their long fins, and bright colors. After keeping these fish for an amount of time, many people decide to try their hand at breeding them for fun. This can be a bit daunting as they require some preparation and certain parameters before they will spawn with ease for their owners. Knowing how to set up the spawning tank is an important step when one is just learning to breed betta fish.

1. Tank size – a 5 gallon fish tank is the perfect size for spawning. The water is filled only to to 4 to 6 inches. This limits the space that the male and female can hide from each other in!

Next you have the compact fluorescent light. This can be used in tanks that contain upward of 55 gallons or more. You can safely add plants when you use this type of lighting.

The third choice is the VHO or Very High Output. This freshwater aquarium lighting is suitable for tanks that contain 100 gallons or more. If you want to have plants then this type of lighting is suitable for them.

There are four criteria to consider regarding lighting for a freshwater aquarium:

  1. The number of lumens per watt
  2. Lumens per watt
  3. PAR and
  4. Watts

As a basic rule of thumb here is a general overview of which lighting is suitable for various conditions:

  • The recommended lighting for fish-only aquariums: Standard or power compact fluorescent systems. These use a minimum of 2-3 watts per every gallon of tank water.
  • For freshwater planted aquariums: Standard fluorescent, T-5HO, power compact and metal halide/HQI. These take a minimum of 4 watts per gallon; a higher ratio is best.
  • For marine reef aquariums: T-5 HO, VHO, Power Compact, Metal Halide/HQI. Reef tanks require a minimum of 4-6 watts per gallon and if your tank contains Coral, Anemones or Clams then increase it to 8-12 or more watts per gallon

It is important that you know which Kelvin Rating to make use of:

  • For fish you will need 5,500K to 20,000K depending on the species. Deeper tanks will require actinics.
  • For plants you will need 6,500K to 18,000K.
  • For reefs you will need 9,000K to 20,000K with actinics.

Those are the main requirements of setting up a betta spawning tank. If you prepare ahead of time by having everything ready, then there is a better chance at having a successful time breeding your favorite fish
